What Is Microneedling And Is It Safe?
Dr. Slater has 30 years experience as a physician and is double board certified. He and his qualified staff use an electric skin needling device made especially for this purpose. The Micro-pen used at Aesthetic Body Sculpture Clinic is sterile and safe. Microneedling causes micro-damage to the skin and encourages skin cells to proliferate. Cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers and stimulates elastin and collagen fibers to grow. The creation of new capillaries is necessary for improved blood supply. How Does Microneedling Work?
Our medical Esthetician glides the pen along the skin, penetrating the upper layers of the skin to create numerous micro-channel, this prompts the body to respond by activating the healing process, which in turn causes the increase of collagen production and elastin fibers. This is the very same thing we need for our skin to remain looking YOUTHFUL. The healing response to the micro wounds causes the skin to appear plump and healthy. Micro-needling is excellent for reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles and visibly decreases pore size.
What Does The Treatment Involve?

What Will I Look Like After Treatment?
NOTE: Products containing Growth Factors can greatly reduce symptoms of redness and swelling post treatment

Most people will experience slight redness and mild swelling similarly as mild sunburn for 24-48 hours, and there may be minimal pinpoint bleeding. Within a week or two, you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking, but the full effects won’t be seen until a few months later. Nothing to worry about, you can wear makeup the next day, and yes you can work. For men, the protocol is the same minus the makeup of course. Most people look like they have a slight tan or sun-kissed. Individuals with darker skin do not show the same redness, but can still experience the same feeling of sunburn or windburn.
What Downtime Is Required?
None, the inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 48 hours. To reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sunblock. The use of mineral makeup is recommended after the treatment. You can apply makeup within 12 hours of the procedure.

Is Microneedling Painful?
No, patients experience little to no discomfort. Dr. Slater and his staff make sure that the numbing cream is applied before treatment to make the experience a pain-free one.
Can Microneedling Be Performed On Any Skin Color?
Medical Micro-needling is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colors as long as the device has been approved and a licensed medical professional that has experience with all skin types is performing the treatment. There is a small risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation even if the medical practitioner follows treatment protocol. PRP can reduce chances of post-treatment hyperpigmentation in patients with skin types 3 or darker.
What Should I Avoid After Receiving Treatment?
To ensure the right healing environment, do not use AHA’s (glycolic-acid), retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients. Exposure to the sun should be avoided, and zinc based sunblock should be used daily. SPF30 is recommended.
Possible Side Effects
There are virtually no negative side effects, and few have been reported at Aesthetic Body Sculpture Clinic & Center for Anti-Aging. Occasional short-term breakouts, swelling, and itching after treatment are rare but can occur. Please let Dr. Slater know if you have had a reaction after Micro-Needling in the past. If you struggle with Hyperpigmentation please bring your concerns to our attention prior to treatment.
Who Is A Candidate For Microneedling?
Dr. Slater will determine if this treatment is right for you by evaluating your medical history. Rare skin conditions and certain medical conditions may prevent you from having this treatment. Microneedling can be safely performed on all skin types and all skin colors. Miro-Needling can treat sensitive and fragile areas that are difficult to treat with other procedures. These areas include the eye area, the neck and the top of the hands. Using Growth Factors as an additional boost for skin treatments are of great benefit to especially those with specific skin concerns and volume loss of the face from aging.
